How to Get Pregnant Naturally

Infertility

Infertility can broadly be defined as the failure to fall pregnant after trying for at least 12 months without the use of any form of birth control being used.
Infertility affects roughly 15% of the population of Western countries. Whilst a proportion of people suffering from infertility try to conceive using alternative treatments such as IVF, there are many others who prefer to increase their chances of getting pregnant naturally.
Trying to get pregnant naturally is very important, as many individuals and couples who have been diagnosed as infertile may in fact be able to get pregnant naturally after all, hence these people should be classed as "sub-fertile" and not "infertile"

Getting Pregnant Naturally

One of the most important factors in trying to get pregnant naturally is to fully understand the menstrual cycle and the timing of of ovulation, understanding of this will lead to the optimum chances of falling pregnant naturally.
Ovulation usually occurs around the 14th day of the cycle, therefore to get pregnant naturally a couple should have sexual intercourse as often as possible between the 12th and 15th day of the cycle.
As all women's menstrual cycles vary slightly it is most important to study one's periods over a number of months to calculate exactly when ovulation occurs.

 Determining the Signs of Ovulation

To ensure the timings of ovulation are correct, women should do one or all of the following things:
  • Keep a calender - Keeping a calender is an important but simple way of ensuring that you know the right times within your cycle to have sexual intercourse.
  • Check your vaginal fluids - Any mucus discharge from the vagina will usually become heavier, thinner and clearer during ovulation than at other times.
  • Feel the inside of the vagina - The cervix is softer and a little more open during ovulation.
  • Be aware of any sharp abdominal pain - Sharp pains in the abdomen are often signs of ovulation.
  • Other physical conditions - Breast tenderness, bloating and headaches are all signs of ovulation.

when does ovulation occur

Once ovulation has been checked and confirmed, there are a number of other things that can be done to increase the chances of getting pregnant naturally. These include lying as still as possible after sexual intercourse, avoiding using the bathroom for at least 30 minutes after sex, and most importantly - having sexual intercourse as often as possible during the ovulation period!

Men are often guilty in neglecting their part in the whole process, the male sperm need to be of the right shape, constitution and motility otherwise no matter how fertile the woman is natural pregnancy is highly unlikely to happen. One simple way of ensuring that the sperm is kept undamaged and in good condition is to wear boxer shorts instead of briefs, boxer shorts help to stop the testicles from overheating and damaging the sperm.

Both the anatomical and hormonal factors, for both men and women, are not the only ones that need to be monitored and rectified. Failure to conceive is often the result of an improper diet, undue stress, the use of alcohol and nicotine and even environmental factors such as close proximity to harmful levels of pollution. Avoiding all of these factors will greatly enhance the chances of falling pregnant naturally.

It is important to bear in mind that an holistic approach to solving a problem is the most effective way to combat infertility, regular medical check-ups, taking health supplements, exercise and stress reduction are only a part of the holistic approach to infertility which takes the problem as a whole unlike conventional treatments which attempt to heal or treat a specific organ.
The holistic approach to infertility is a sure fire way to vastly increase your chances of getting pregnant naturally, and guarantees your pregnancy is both a safe and healthy one.
