What Precisely Is Infertility?

Infertility in females is defined as either problems conceiving a child or problems preventing the pregnancy from going full-term from conception to birth. In males infertility is classed as the inability to impregnate a female. What are the signs of infertility?....how do you know if you are infertile?

What are the Signs of Infertility?

It is not always easy to spot the signs of infertility, many people continue through life putting their failure to fall pregnant or maintain a pregnancy to full-term as simple "bad luck" when in fact miscarriages are one of the most common signs of infertility.
The signs of infertility are more easily identified in women as opposed to men and can include one or more of the following:

• Endometriosis  a condition that causes the lining of the uterus to grow outside the uterus.
• Bacterial Infections may start in the area around the uterus and spread to other areas in and around the reproductive organs.
• Fibroids in the uterus are often a sign of infertility.
• Tumors in the cervix often cause a condition known as Stenosis, or narrowing of the cervix.
• Luteal Phase Defect  Ovulating before the 10th day and after the 20th day of the monthly menstrual cycle are signs of Luteal Phase Defect and can point to infertility.
• Irregular Menstrual Cycles are probably the most common indicator of an infertility problem, however whilst irregular periods alone are not conclusive, they are a sign of infertility.

• Body Weight  obesity can lead to a hormone imbalance which will affect pregnancy, whilst anorexia (or simply being too thin) will certainly hinder the chances of becoming pregnant as the body will lack both the strength and nutrition required.

 Signs of Infertility in Men.

Men also share the weight issues that women do in relation to fertility, apart from this there are some anatomical signs to watch out for such as un-descended testicles or damage testicles or scrotum. Wearing very tight trousers or underwear can affect the bodies ability to produce sperm as can exposing the testicles to heat.

 Diagnosing the Signs of Infertility.

Whilst there are many medical procedures doctors may employ to diagnose infertility, some of the more common ones include:

• Hysterosalpingography : Blockages in the fallopian tube are detected via a dye that is injected into the vagina.
• Laparoscopy : A laparoscopy will detect disease, infection or any other physical problems that may persist in the ovaries, fallopian tubes or uterus.
